Through collaboration, education, and support, we strive to empower breeders to make informed decisions, advance the welfare of purebred dogs, and foster a vibrant and responsible dog breeding community.

History
The Seattle Kennel Club is rich in history. In the late 1890’s, a group of dog fanciers began the Queen City Dog Club which eventually became Seattle Kennel Club. Due to the documentation of existence, the SKC was grandfathered in as an AKC member club. For a brief stroll down memory lane, we’ve collected some pictures from our last four decades of dog shows.

Seattle Kennel Club 1966 Show

Golden Retrievers Best Team in Show - 1966
In 1966, a team of stunning Golden Retrievers captured the Best Team in Show title at the Seattle Kennel Club dog show. This remarkable achievement showcased the breed's elegance, teamwork, and standout presence in the ring. It remains a proud moment in SKC history, celebrating Golden Retrievers' legacy and class.

Best in Show 1968 The Pekingese
In a memorable showcase of breed excellence, a Pekingese captured the Best in Show title at the Seattle Kennel Club in 1968. This triumph highlighted the breed’s regal poise, dignified gait, and show-ring presence—traits celebrated by SKC for decades. It remains a proud milestone reflecting SKC’s rich history of honoring exceptional purebred dogs.

SKC 1970 Best in Show Winner The Yorkshire Terrier
In 1970, a striking Yorkshire Terrier claimed the prestigious Best in Show title at the Seattle Kennel Club Dog Show, showcasing the breed’s elegance, precision, and timeless charm. This win stands as a classic moment in SKC history, celebrating the Yorkie’s enduring appeal.

SKC Best in Show Winner Basenji
Ch. Rameses Golden Phoenix, FCh, handled by Ken Leighton, made SKC history as the first Field Champion sighthound to win Best in Show—proving that dogs with field-earned titles can excel in the conformation ring. This milestone reflects SKC’s commitment to celebrating versatility and excellence across disciplines.

Two Time SKC Best in Show Winner 1999 & 2000
Ch. Rameses Golden Phoenix, FCh, handled by Ken Leighton, made SKC history as the first Field Champion sighthound to win Best in Show—twice, in 1999 and 2000. His back-to-back wins proved that field-titled dogs can shine in the conformation ring, highlighting SKC’s commitment to honoring both versatility and excellence.
