What is the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test?
The AKC CGC is a widely respected training program and test comprised of 10 real-life behavior tasks, designed to assess and reward dogs for good manners and composure in everyday situations.
Tasks include:
Accepting a friendly stranger
Sitting politely for petting
Appearance and grooming
Walking on a loose leash
Walking through a crowd
Sit, down, and stay (with distance)
Coming when called
Reaction to another dog
Reaction to distractions
Supervised separation
Passing dogs earn a CGC certificate, and—if your dog has an AKC number, PAL, or Canine Partners number—you can apply to have CGC added to their official title record!
